The Ride-Roll-Run Relay is a timed competition in the Douglas State Forest. There are three segments of the race, completed by a team of 2-3 participants: An equestrian, a mountain biker, and a runner.
The purpose of this event is to highlight the benefits of multi-user trails within the Douglas State Forest and bring together different user groups in a common goal. Funds raised will go to Bay State Trail Riders Association, which supports multi-use trail systems and maintenance within the forest.
This is a beginner friendly course. Horses start first, with 2-3 minutes spaced in between each horse. Companion horses are allowed, and are required for riders under the age of 16. The horse segment is 6-8 miles over single track trails and gravel fire roads, some rocky trails, and road crossings. The course has very little overlap with the bikes and chances are small of meeting up with one. When the equestrian reaches the transition station, they will hand a wristband to their running teammate. The runner will complete a 5.5 mile trail run on rolling single track trails, fire roads, and some flat sections. The runner will return to the parking lot and hand the wristband to their mountain biker for the final segment. The bike course is entirely trail, a mixture of fire road, rail trail, and technical single track. This is designed for the intermediate cyclist, and is approximately 8-10 miles.
